Tracy Johnston
Tracy received a Associates degree in Data Processing in the first graduating class of Triton Jr. College, River Grove, Illinois in 1968. While attending Illinois State University in 1969 he ran the Data Center at their College of Engineering. Tracy left Illinois State after one year when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following Electronics and Sonar Training in San Diego, Tracy spent most of the remaining four years at sea, in five of the seven seas in submarine detection. His last year, shortly after marrying Joyce, was spent off the coast of Vietnam aboard the USS Perry DD844 in the role of gun fire support, pilot rescue, and occasional active combat, all of which gave him a extra $69.00 per month to send home to Joyce.
Following the military, before returning to finish college, Tracy and Joyce moved to Atlanta, Ga. where Tracy worked at Electronic Data Systems (EDS) for Ross Perot a American businessman who became best known for being an Independent Party Presidential Candidate in 1992 and 1996. In 1972, Tracy and Joyce moved back to Temple Terrace, Florida where Tracy graduated from USF's College of Business with a B.A. in Business Administration and a additional A.S. Degree in Accounting.
Following graduation at USF, Tracy was employed by NCR in their department of Systemedia (Business Forms Sales) where he learned the ins and outs of the printing industry. Tracy left NCR to start TJA in 1982 with a loan of $300 from Joyce.
Tracy and Joyce have been married over 50 years. They are blessed with two married daughters, Peyton and Lauren, two son-in-law sons, Darren and Jon, and five wonderful grand children. Several are planning their own future businesses as you read this.
Both daughters having grown up in the business have had a hand in the success of TJA. At one time Joyce also worked in the business, as did her father Hank, as well as son-in-law Jon. Peyton, who once worked at TJA is a successful respected teacher. Lauren in active in TJA with a territory in the Tampa Area while learning all aspects of the business. She is currently Vice President of the company.
When not working, Tracy and Joyce believe in volunteering in their community.
